CHLI’s Chairman Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Vice-Chairman Mario Diaz-Balart to
Receive 2017 Edward R. Roybal Award for Outstanding Public Service
Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) is proud to announce that on January 17, 2017, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) publicized that they will be honoring CHLI Founder and Chairman, Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Vice-Chairman, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, respectively, with the Edward R. Roybal Award for Outstanding Public Service. They will be honored at NALEO’s annual Edward R. Roybal Legacy Gala in Washington, D.C. on March 7, 2017.
NALEO integrates strategies to increase the effectiveness of Latino policymakers and provides national leadership on key issues affecting the Latino participation in the political process. The Roybal Award is presented annually to individuals who have distinguished themselves as devoted public servants to the nation and the Latino community. This is the first time in its history that two brothers will receive the award and CHLI is honored that its Chairman and Vice-Chairman have been selected.
CHLI Chairman Lincoln Diaz-Balart helped found CHLI in 2003, along with Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, while he served as the Representative to Florida’s 21st Congressional District. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart is currently serving his 8th term in the House of Representatives, where he represents Florida’s 25th congressional district.
“I’m so proud of my legislative brothers, Lincoln and Mario, for receiving NALEO’s Roybal Award for Public Service. Their legacy of service is an inspiration to South Florida and the many they have helped,” said Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute congratulates both, Chairman Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Vice-Chairman Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, for being honored with the Roybal Award and looks forward to celebrating the accomplishment in March.
